Cuon alpinus, einzige Art (Kopf-Rumpf-Länge 85-110 cm) der Gattung Cuon (Asiatische Wildhunde), mit elf Unterarten über weite Teile Asiens verbreitet. Rothunde bewohnen die verschiedenartigsten Lebensräume und ernähren sich v. a. von größeren Pflanzenfressern (z. B. Hirschen, Rentieren), die sie im Rudel jagen.
